Consultation on Draft Equality Scheme and Audit of Inequalities/Action Plan
Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 requires public authorities, in carrying out their functions, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and regard to the desirability of promoting good relations across a range of categories outlined in the Act.
Public Authorities are also required to produce an Equality Scheme which explains how they intend to fulfil these duties. The Northern Ireland Law Commission (the Commission) has produced a draft scheme based on updated guidance from the Equality Commission.
The Commission has also drawn up a draft Audit of Inequalities to inform an Action Plan detailing measures which the Commission intends to take in order to promote equality of opportunity and good relations.
A public consultation commenced on 27 June 2011 for a period of 15 weeks and closed on Monday 10 October 2011.
